Purifying The Skin
So many of us wait all year long for the arrival of summer; what a great time of the year. With all of the outdoor activities, we tend to be more social during summer months. Soaking up the sun makes us look and feel good. But, as with everything in life, we just may pay a price for being self-proclaimed sun goddesses. The sun has many harmful effects and the products we use to protect our skin from the sun can create problems too. However, there are a fair amount of good skin care remedies available to purify the skin. One can get a professional facial, or try an effective home remedy.
Shani Darden from West Hollywood has another approach. The problem she sees with most people is that they are using the wrong products. If you have dry skin, use a product that will hydrate dry skin, not a brand that is known for a specific skin type. Wearing sunscreen is important and she also recommends switching to a lighter moisturizer. There's a small line from California, which she is partial to called Control Corrective.
The pores in our skin can get clogged with oil (sunblock), dirt, debris, and sweat. A good deep cleanser will help your skin to breath.
Below are a few light and easy remedies you can make at home to get rid of clogged pores (citation:Top 10 homeremedies.com)
Steaming the face is an inexpensive and highly effective remedy for clogged pores. Steaming opens the clogged pores and allows all kinds of impurities trapped inside to be washed away.
1 Fill a pot with water, cover it with a lid and heat the water on the stove.
2 When the water is hot enough to produce steam, remove the pot from the heat.
3 Place a towel over your head and lean over the steaming water.
4 Allow the steam to soak into your face for 10 to 15 minutes.
5 Then pat dry your face and use a toner (to balance the skin’s pH) and mild moisturizer (to protect your skin from drying out).
Baking soda is a gentle exfoliating agent that can unplug pores by removing dead skin cells, dirt and other impurities. Plus, baking soda helps regulate the pH balance of the skin to make it look young and smooth.
• Make a deep facial cleanser with two teaspoons of baking soda and one teaspoon of water. Mix the ingredients together to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste on your face and gently massage in a circular motion for a few minutes. Leave it on for about five minutes, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Use this homemade deep cleanser once a week.
Alternatively, you can make a mixture with two tablespoons of baking soda, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, the juice from half a lemon and five tablespoons of honey. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and then apply it on your face. After five minutes, wash it off. Follow this remedy once or twice a week.

DIY honey/lemon masks. Almost every DIY face mask lists honey as an ingredient and that's because of its healing properties, as well as helping to tighten your pores. The simplest mask is to apply a few tablespoons of raw honey right to your face, but you can also add a tablespoon of cinnamon or a tablespoon of yogurt with a teaspoon of olive oil to smooth out the impurities in your skin. Lemon is another one of those seemingly miracle ingredients because the acid is a natural exfoliant. You can add it to the above masks or simply place a few drops directly on to your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash your face with warm water. These easy masks can be done three or more times a week as needed, but remember that lemon can be drying when applied directly on your skin.
Parsley. Not only is it great for diminishing dark spots, but parsley makes for a great pore cleanser as well. The parsley can be used every other day on its own or twice a week when mixed with lemon and honey. You can soak a small head of parsley in warm water and then dip a wash cloth in the water and apply it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes. Or to make a mask, finely chop a small head of parsley (after you've soaked it in warm water) and combine it with a tablespoon of honey. Apply it to your face for 10 to 15 minutes.
