Bill Cunningham was one of the most talented fashion photographers of our time. He was able to get the pulse of the street and capture the moods and trends of the fashion industry. He did this by immersing himself in his work. He had a set of eyes combined with a strong fashion sensibility that was part of his fiber. He saw fashion arrive before most people saw it coming. Bill took to the streets with his gut instinct and camera to look for that next fashion piece - - no data here. There were times he looked away from the runway shows only to set his sights to the fabled and raw streets of NYC. Pure heart and soul, everyday people and the fashion world, Bill Cunningham presented life in the immediate. While shooting the heel of a woman's shoe or Editta Sherman in a heavily graffiti subway car, we peek into his lens and see a moment that will be immortalized forever. NYC was his backyard and the streets were his studio. He generously gave us the urban experience. Thank you Bill for the gracious gentleman you always were.
We greatly appreciate Cunningham’s work and honor him here today; he was inspiring. His portfolio captured the power of women and gave voice to their fashion statements and innovations. Coco & Cyd believe in his work because we also are here to support and empower women. Fashion is a great means of confidence and personal expression, and it is so crucial to take note of the great influences in our industry.
Designer Oscar De La Renta said: "More than anyone else in the city, he has the whole visual history of the last 40 or 50 years of New York. It's the total scope of fashion in the life of New York."

"The best fashion show is definitely on the street. Always has been, and always will be."
