Making Decisions and Finding Positive Support
Making a decision to change something in our lives can be challenging. If you think of the absolute worst-case scenario, then think it through, and accept it, you will gain a sense of power within yourself. When you realize the worst won’t always happen as a result of this decision, even if it is the wrong decision, it frees you to be more confident, make the call, and keep moving forward.
Dave Ramsey always talks about making decisions. He maintains, "the art to making the call, a good decision, involves gathering information." "The more information you have, the more obvious the correct decision is and therefore, it is an easier decision to make. Information removes fear." Makes sense!
Part of life is experiencing ups and downs. When we make a decision to do something different, it can initially be difficult. Hang in there, the road will become smoother, and you’ll consistently learn something with each new chapter. Always be prepared to tighten your seat belt again, life has a way of never moving in a straight line. The most important thing is that you're moving forward and every lesson you go through is another feather in your hat.
We need people who understand us, people who we can depend on during tough times. We need people who will listen to us and give us honest feedback. Some people prefer being with a large support group, and then there are those who need a small support system. Whatever feels like a good fit for you, go with that because at the end of the day, we need each other. I can't tell you how many times I've grown frustrated with the human race and said "that's it, I'm going to move to my own planet and not have to deal with anyone", but you know as well as I do, we all need human interaction and without it, we would be sad.
When we have that need to reach out to someone, start with people who are already in your life. Make a list and determine who is positive and who isn't. Negative people can drain your energy and bring you down. Negative thoughts are very powerful; the trick is not to let them enter your brain at all. As soon as you feel a negative thought creep in, stop it at the front door. Shift gears immediately and think of a good thought, a happy time and elaborate on it until it overtakes anything negative. Positive thoughts will always influence negative thoughts. Your time and energy needs to be spent on those who make you feel good about yourself so you can move forward to make those changes.
Hear this loud and clear. We cannot do anything without help from other people who assist and support our endeavor. People you know and don’t know will come in and out of your life, and some will join your team because they believe in what you’re doing. It’s these wonderful people who will pitch in and make all the difference. At times, they carry us forward and keep our spirit going, even during those times when we question the decision to make positive changes in our life.
