Spending Time with Those We Love

The holidays are here...what a great time to start buying gifts to share, making that list of who's coming to your house for these special days, we’ll even start thinking of where to take our guests since the city is such a beautiful place around the winter holidays.  Oh and don't forget we promised ourselves we'd make a double batch of Christmas cookies since they went so quickly last year.  Whoa, let's stop for one moment.  At this point, the tension starts to seep in.  We want everyone to be happy and have a great holiday experience but aren't we a part of this great experience too?  Sure nothing is ever 50/50 but we need to not set our expectations so high.  I overheard a woman on the train the other day say, “I just want this to be over, there's too much going on.”  I know we can all relate to what she is saying to varying degrees but we shouldn't stress over this time of the year. This is a season of celebration so lets see how we can pull back, a little, without disappearing altogether.

It's so easy to get caught up in what we think the holidays should feel like.  Watching commercials or thumbing through magazines this time of year, you gotta admit, everything looks picture perfect. No one's sick, both parents are together, the families have money because there are a lot of gifts and food.   So lets get back to reality.  Be realistic. What can you do to keep it simple? Instead of cramming so much into your calendar, block out some friend time or have a little family time. Friends are healing and they listen. You know as well as I do, we really need each other. Good friends can help move stress away just by being there for you. As for our immediate family, the crew, block out a movie night - yes, around the holidays.   When you start to plan out time, you'll be amazed at the positive effect it has on us. It allows us to recharge our energy cells.

Take a look at what you can postpone or delete.  There's always January, a month that allows a little more time when schedules aren't as packed as usual.  Sometimes if you look at what you've done in the past, you can eliminate at least one thing this year.  Just one 'do not' will make a difference.

Hear this loud and clear.  We can't do anything without help from other people who love us, want to help and support us.  When you start to plan out time, you'll be amazed at how it allows you to feel. It gives us a little time to recharge our energy cells and the joy we derive from being with a friend, well all I can say is most other things do not compare.

You want to be able to see the beauty of this holiday season. It only comes once a year - don't miss the grace and the peace this holiday freely gives us.

Thank you so much for joining us today!

Quote to take with you for the week:

"Making friends for the world to see

Let the people know you got what you need

With a friend at hand you will see the light

If your friends are there, then everything's all right"

Lyrics Friends - Elton John
